DeBary is a city in Volusia County, Florida, known primarily as a residential and retirement community. In 1871, 400 acres of land in this region was sold to (Samuel) Frederick deBary (for whom the city was named), a wealthy wine merchant from New York City. Eventually, he acquired an additional 9,000 acres on which he planted orange groves and pecan trees. In 1875, deBary bought a small steamboat, the George M. Bird, to transport his fruit to market.
If deBary were around today, he could easily store his citrus inventory at Uncle Bob's Self Storage-Enterprise Road, located at 3075 Enterprise Road, where Interstate 4 crosses Enterprise Road, east of Lake Gleason and west of Glen Abbey Golf Club.
